Where did the IPAD come from?

It helps to know a little about the background of where the IPAD-OS™ started and how it came to exist as it does today when trying to explain how unique the IPAD-OS is in today's world.

The history of the IPAD started officially in 1993 when Philip L. Becker, the original author, announced it as a way to allow his customers to connect their business to the Internet. It did not have the huge technical learning curve required by traditional methods. Mr. Becker had built a solid track record with his customers going back to 1981 with communications products he created and sold all over the world.

It took almost two full years of dedicated development work by Mr. Becker and his skilled programming team to complete the first commercial version of the IPAD-OS. It was released in 1995 and it immediately became apparent the IPAD was ahead of its time.

The company that Mr. Becker founded, eSoft, Inc., marketed the IPAD through the end of 1999. In that same amount of time the company grew from a small privately held company to one publicly traded on NASDAQ. International IPAD distribution was reaching as far east as Japan, as far south as Australia and was even working its way into the very demanding markets of western Europe.

Few of the resellers understood the genius of the IPAD-OS design and that lead to slowing sales and the eventual end of IPAD product development.
